We have recently upgraded from Exchange to Exchange CU2. When a user’s password expires and they login to OWA, the system allows them to change the password. This was not an issue in Exchange I test it before.

If you have any feedback on our support, please click here. You’ll probably have to redo this each time there’s a major update in the latest version folder for owa. This is not working for me? Could the syntax I’m putting in be wrong, when I try this its still does not fill in the domain information for me. Can you copy the section of code you edited in the fexppw.

Yes even changed it on all versions to just make sure I wasn’t in the wrong location. I do have CU2 if that matters at all on all my Exchange boxes. That would cause it to skip that section of code. We have ours set to User name only with the domain defaulted. Yes its the section under “initExpPW”. Is there an easy way to do that? This worked perfectly for me!!!

Thank you Robert! I believe you needn’t specify your domain FQDN unless you have multidomain forest with mailboxes in different domains. Exchange must be able to find the user account in the AD, nothing above it. I did a test and worked with CU3 but I noticed that will only work when Form authentication is enabled.

If Windows authentication is enabled, it won’t work. If someone knows how to make it work with Windows Authentication, please share how to do that.

I believe you’ve modified an incorrect file. Beside “current” folder, usually there are several folders with numeric names representing Exchange versions.

You should modify the file in the folder with the most current version number. I know it is correct because as soon as I log on to a server, it prompts me to change the password. When I make the change it doesn’t redirect to the page at all and it just says incorrect user name or password. But when I log on to a machine or PC it does accept the username and password and prompts me to change it when it has expired. I believe you do something in a wrong way. I confirm that this method works on SP1 as well.

Please check carefully what you’re doing. I have installed the Exchange with SP1 Version Of course. If you enter user domain. But If I change password for users and I would like that users must change password on next logon. In the username field, if the user enter email address, They have the error message : username or password is not correct. The method of modifying the OWA files can be used only for changing the OWA behavior in the situation when a user enters their standard logon name without any prefixes or suffixes.

In this situation Exchange doesn’t know what domain name it should use, so our task is to give it a hint. No additional hints for Exchange are required. You needn’t modify OWA files at all. By the way, I waguely recall that the password changing functionality in Exchange doesn’t work with UPN names at all.

I can’t confirm it, though, so I may be wrong. Office Office Exchange Server. Not an IT pro? Sign in. United States English. Ask a question. Quick access. Search related threads. When changing passwords, users can’t use a UPN.

Marked as answer by cara chen Wednesday, August 7, PM. Thursday, August 1, AM. There has to be a way to change this. Thursday, August 1, PM. Hello, Based on my experience, there seems no way to change this. And there is no related article to explain we can use UPN when changing passwords.

Friday, August 2, AM. This is a big problem. We have the logon format set to username only with the default domain set for OWA, but when a user’s password expires it takes them to the change password page and fills in just their username – they have no idea what “domain” is or that they need to add it before their username. This should be fixed to follow the logon format of OWA. Tuesday, August 13, PM.

This assumes you’re not using UPN format username domain. That would require a little more string manipulation. Friday, August 23, PM. Were you in the latest version folder? There’s just one change, to modify this: gbid “username”.

I’m on CU2 as well. It should work within double quotes. The spot you’re changing is within the “initExpPw” function, right? Wednesday, October 16, PM. I can remove my large text warning for users to enter it manually now. Monday, December 2, AM. It really works. Without it OWA just states that the user name or password is incorrect. Wednesday, January 22, AM. Does it work with CU3? Is there difference between: gbid “username”. Sunday, February 9, AM. It definitely works with CU2.

Monday, February 10, AM. Hi, I did a test and worked with CU3 but I noticed that will only work when Form authentication is enabled. Thursday, February 13, PM. I am trying to get this to work on CU3. But then the domain is not added to the user name on the reset form. I have form based authentication set. I have restarted IIS. The default domain is set for the log on page, so the user only has to enter username and not the domain.

But this has to be done every time when logging on so defeats the point. Is there another setting somewhere I am missing? Friday, February 28, AM. For example, I’ve modified the fexppw.
