I’ve just completed an install of Windows 8. It shouldn’t matter but it’s a volume based activation. Once the email is configured in Outlook Exchange In spite of the fact the mail is coming and going with no issues there is a prompt to enter the username with repeatedly pops during operation.

Run a repair on the profile. The server is ping-able from the machine with a hard wired connection. I’ve tried to change to varying types of authentication without success.

This issue seems to be happening on two devices with the same user logged in – Both are the same OS etc. Sorry for the late reply, ok so we ruled out administrator as we setup his Outlook profile with the admin login – same problem. We had changed the users password a couple of days ago – same problem.

However we found a temp fix, which prevented the auto-discover from trying to connect to the server and so far this has worked. We implemented the reg fix detailed on the final page as it is there is only one user using outlook on his local machine, all others use it via citrix on an older version of Outlook. Two possibilities come to mind. There is a setting under advanced settings in Exchange setup from outlook called “always prompt for credentials”.

This is not selected by default, so it would surprise me if, after your having rebuilt the profile, it remained an issue. But Group Policy might be involved. The second possibility is that you’ve set up Exchange connectivity using RPC over HTTP, which allows access from external locations if you have it set up.

Please try the email access on webmail, same issue? Also temporarily make the user administrator on the local computer and access email I don’t believe its the password or the profile which is causing this. Several of the other forums suggested this has only started happening since an update late in November. Thanks, I’m not sure what logging into Webmail would prove, it’s a MS Security prompt we are getting the mail is functioning fine on the client. As for giving admin rights, is there a specific reason, generally speaking the is an MS security prompt not a request for admin rights.

The prompt says Microsoft Outlook, Connecting to “mailbox”, and displays email address and requests a password. Did not work, I’m now in the process of running further windows updates – which should have been done previously. I’ll know more in the next 48hrs. Morning Sorry I was off over the weekend, and left at lunchtime Friday. Ok so the setting for always prompt is disabled. As it’s a higher up thats affected there are multiple devices doing the same thing 2 laptops. Monday, December 15, AM.
