Every time I use IE8, a process is left behind after I exit. The process is iexplore. There are usually several of them. After ending the left-over process or processes , all icons begin working properly. Both are maintained with all recommended AND optional updates. I have seen multiple threads that seem to be related, but they are so long and involved, I am unable to determine if there is a real solution. Several of them have asked for a new starting thread.

If not, what other fixes are there? Lisa M. Finally the computer started crashing every few minutes. I started looking this up on the internet and found that there is an iexplore exe trojan or virus, which I worked on but could never get rid of, with Rkill, microsoft safety scanner, and microsoft security essentials.

I even took the computer in for a professional to look at but they could not find the problem. Now, I have downloaded Firefox and there is no problem, the computer is superfast, like new, no crashes, etc.

I want to eliminate Internet Explorer, but that program is hiding in the control panel, so I can’t find it to eliminate the problem.

I am posting here to let others know that this is a well known problem with internet explorer, just google it. The answer is Firefox. What makes no sense is all the denial in the microsoft forums that this is a virus or trojan, after several years, and no definitive answers in any microsoft forums.

As I mentioned, I ran numerous I kind of figured it is malware, but there is also talk on numerous threads that it is not. Why, why, why is this not recognized by the Microsoft security scan????????????
